The outdoor scene in Jerusalem is gradually growing, both in terms of team sports and individual recreation. The recent hosting of the Euro-U21 Soccer Championship, whose final was played at Teddy Stadium has also helped to boost the profile of sport within Jerusalem. With professional soccer and basketball teams playing here there are chances to see sport at the highest level.
For those of you who love your gridiron, there is a semi-amateur football league with at least one game at Kraft Stadium (at the north end of Gan Sacher) every Thursday for the duration of the season, which runs from November to March. Still on a football theme, Isrel will host the 2014 European Flag Football Championships in June and no doubt games will be held in Jerusalem. There are sometimes pick-up games in Gan Sacher for those of you who want something a little competitive.
There are also areas opportunities for games of touch rugby, soccer and basketball. Gan Sacher is also a great place to work out with an area designated for weightless workout machines and paths popular with cyclists. One of the best places in the city now for recreational sport (principally running and biking, though there are also weightless workout machines) is the newly finished Railway Street, which runs from the Malha Mall in the south of the city as far the Hebron Road. It is truly a joy to see how a disused former railway line has been aboslutely transformed into one of the most used thoroughfares in the entire city. It is well lit, pedestranized and is truly a must if you want to bike or run
