There have long been bakeries in Machane Yehuda, but their products have always been more functional than artisanal - fresh-baked pita and chewy laffa are tasty, but seem unlikely inspire any Proustian sentimentality. Teller Bakery, though, aims to change that. Teller doesn't compete with the pita men directly, but rather specializes in artisanal traditional European breads (crusty baguettes, rustic boules) and buttery French pastries and croissants. You can see the bakers hard at work slashing loaves and piping pastry filling when you make your order - unlike some other Machane Yehuda bakeries, none of the goods here are made off-site and transported to the store. And everything is mehadrin kosher too.
