Charedi Society Today: between Integration and Seclusion


Charedi society has undergone fascinating processes, involving extensive changes, over the past few years. Is it opening up or closing itself in? Is it integrating or becoming more extreme? Is it becoming more modern or more traditional? Does it take part in the processes that Israeli society, as a whole, is going through? What will it look like in the coming decades?


Organized and moderated by Prof. Kimi Kaplan, Bar-Ilan University and the Van Leer Institute of Jerusalem.


First session: Torah and Work

Charedi women are pursuing higher education and entering the workforce, and Charedi men are working in addition to-or instead of-pursuing Torah study. Is Charedi society joining the work force?
