Jerusalem's top events for the week of August 8th
The party continues and Jerusalem's streets are as packed as ever
with summer revelers out and about living each day to the max at festivals, huge outdoor concerts, family attractions and more. Meanwhile, the Jewish calendar month of Elul has begun, a time of
introspection and repentance leading up to the High Holidays - get in
the spirit with Slichot tours and a visit to the Kotel. So what's in store for the upcoming week? Read on to find out.
- Israel's grandest summer festival, Chutzot Hayotzer, returns to Jerusalem's Sultan's Pool
from August 5-17. In addition to the arts and crafts on offer, the
festival includes an international food court as well as plenty of live
musical entertainment and children's activities. This week's performers
include Moshe Peretz, Yehudit Ravitz, Eviatar Banai, Matti Caspi and

- Always wanted to participate in a Ramadan celebration but didn't know how or where? The Museum of Islamic Art invites you to an evening of peace and friendship
tonight featuring the Shahrir ensemble playing melodies and music
for Ramadan, with traditional Ramadan foods, and a fascinating lecture
on the holiday's customs, symbols, and history.
If you haven't yet made it to this year's wine-tasting festival,
tonight is you last chance to do so. Been there, done that? Go
again! But if you're ready to move on to brewed drinks, the 2013 Jerusalem Beer Festival is also on tonight at Independence Park with over 120 local and international brews, live music and DJs.
- Following last year's success, the Front Stage summer production team returns to Independence Park with an end-of-summer performance by Hadag Nachash
hosting Greek singer Tripones Nicolaides at a huge outdoor concert.
This is the Front Stage Summer 2013's closing event - come enjoy a
Friday afternoon of sun, grass, and music.
- Maestro Giora Feidman, clarinetist Hanan Bar Sela, accordionist Emile Aivinder, and clarinetist Helmut Heizel lead a Melaveh Malkah featuring Worldwide Klezmer Melodies from Hassidic courtyards on Saturday Night at Beit Avi Chai.
The event is part of "A Celebration of Klezmer", celebrating the tenth
anniversary of the Klezmer Master Classes Association in Safed.
- Adventure awaits in Gush Etzion.
Take a trip out to Gush Etzion and enjoy an assortment of attractions,
hikes and bike rides, restaurants, agricultural activities and more. A wide variety of activities
are offered that are appropriate for all ages. All sites are within
just a few minutes drive from one another, and just a 15 minute drive
from Jerusalem.
- How does an evening of cool, refreshing Jerusalem air, top-quality food
and alcohol, and emotive Flamenco music sound to you? Head over to Colony on Monday for a night of Flamenco music
that promises to make its way straight to the soul, with Shuki Shweiki
singing, Idan Bells on guitar, and Ma'ayan Doari on cajon.
- On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings throughout the rest of August, the Israel Museum will be open until 21:30 with live music and twilight tours.
Next Tuesday, catch a performance by Kleine Mentshelekh opening for Dan
Salomon - of "The Voice" Israel, followed by Sagittarius Ensemble
opening for Jali Ensemble next Wednesday.
- Enter the special atmosphere in the Old City in the Jewish calendar month of Elul when the Slichot prayers are recited. The Tower of David's tour begins with a showing
of The Night Spectacular, continues with an experiential walk through
the Old City to learn about the customs and stories of this unique time,
and concludes with a visit to the Western Wall.
