Jerusalem's top events for the week of June 6th
The good times continue to roll in Jerusalem this week. Between the Israel Festival, Light Festival, Book Week,
Tsamid Festival, varied musical offerings, exhibits, and culinary treats including breakfast specials and poolside grill, the Holy City is without a doubt the place to be right now.
- Time to turn on the lights! The Light Festival
is back in Jerusalem's Old City. From June 5-13, exhilarating
experiences await visitors with dozens of breathtaking three dimensional
light sculptures, interactive video art and music displays, street
performances, pyrotechnics, projections on walls and buildings, and "Q":
live Rock Circus Featuring the hits of Queen.
- Tonight! MTV's Adi Dor will DJ at the Jerusalem Mall (Malcha)'s huge silent disco headphone party
for youth. Other highlights include a breakout headphone
show by Axum, video screenings, dancers, free gifts for all participants
and other surprises.
- Bob Dylan just turned 72 - celebrate the man and his rich musical legacy tonight at 22:30 with a live show by the Bob Dylan Tribute Band at Colony.
The restaurant's Thursday night world music concert series--a
celebration of world music, fine food and beverages from around the
world--recently returned for the summer and features a different live act each
week.
- The Museum of Islamic Art presents "Rumi's Song of the Heart":
A hypnotizing tapestry of stories, songs, sounds, and dance, which
brings the audience into the world of the renowned Sufi poet Rumi. This
Friday, Alhaya Eyal Mor tells Rumi's story, Asim Shaul Bracha hypnotizes
with darwish circular dance, and Netanel Goldberg pulls heartstrings
with his voice and music.
- The award winning 1927 Theater Company stops in Jerusalem's Beit Shmuel for three performances of "The Animals and Children Took to the Streets" on Saturday and Sunday nights (part of the Israel Festival).
Mixing live music, storytelling and performance with animation 1927
creates a theatrical experience unlike anything you have seen before.
- Alma Zohar and Daniella Spector discuss freedom, slavery, and poetic license on Monday at the first installment of Beit Avi Chai's
"A New Song: Midrash and Rock 'n' Roll" series: a fascinating and
animated dialogue between Israeli rock and classic Jewish literature.
The series offers a study and analysis of the songs of top Israeli
artists, based on the Talmud and Aggadah.
- ArTricks, the Israel Museum's
new exhibition in the youth wing, invites visitors to explore optical
illusions. Is what we think we see really what we see? Or do our eyes
not always tell us the truth? In this interactive exhibition,
visitors are invited to feel the sense of surprise, awe, and wonder
that arises in us when something turns out not to be what it seemed. Check it out on Tuesday when the museum is open with extended evening hours.
- Too hot to cook? Treat yourself and your family to a meal out. Choose from nine variations of Eggs Benedict at Grand Cafe's Eggs Benedict Festival, on until June 30, or a enjoy a summer poolside experience at the Inbal Jerusalem Hotel's "Grill on the Terrace," complete with live jazz (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and a menu with endless mouthwatering options.
- For the first time in history, Formula 1 race cars are set to speed
through the streets of Jerusalem at the first ever Jerusalem Formula
Peace Road Show on June 13-14, 2013 near the Old City Walls. One hundred
