The mercury has dropped, the rains are back, and the winter holiday season is here! Eight action packed days in honor of Chanukah, arguably the most wonderful time of the year here in Jerusalem, kick off next week, with hundreds of events of every sort imaginable taking place in dozens of venues across the city. As if that wasn't enough, the fun filled winter weekends known as Hamshushalayim continue to entertain residents and visitors from Thursday through Saturday.

Tonight marks the beginning of the second weekend of Hamshushalaim, with a slew of special deals at restaurants and hotels to keep you well wined and dined. Lavan's annual mushroom festival is back, featuring a special menu starring 12 varieties of mushrooms, and the American Colony Hotel's Val's Brasserie and Cellar Bar have introduced new winter menus.
Head down to the Tower of David Museum on Friday for an English-language tour tracing the footsteps of Kaiser Wilhelm II through the Old City, concluding with the tour of the new exhibition. Follow the Kaiser's procession through the Old City, feel Theador Herzl's excitement upon meeting the Kaiser, and discover the excavations beneath the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
Chanukah begins on Saturday night, and one of the best ways to celebrate in the holy city is simply to stroll down the streets at night and take in the beauty of hundreds of Hanukkiot (Chanukah menoras) lit up in every window and often, right out on the street. For a more guided experience take one of Beit Shmuel's Chanukah tours in neighborhoods around Jerusalem.
The holy city is jam packed as a jelly donut with events for kids over Chanukah vacation. The Bloomfield Science Museum is fired up with pyrotechnic shows, musical menorahs, and Train Theater puppet shows, The Museum of Islamic Art hosts children's performances and arts and crafts, and kids' favorite TV stars will be hitting up the Jerusalem Mall (Malcha).
