If you haven't ridden the new light rail yet, now's the time. After this week, Citypass will start charging for the pleasure of shuttling people around the city on the ultra-modern new trains. And with plenty of events happening around town, you'll never lack a destination.

• On Thursday night, rhythmic masters Mayumana (pictured) bring their impressive beats and movements to Sultan's Pool for a performance. The internationally-acclaimed, Jaffa-based group, currently on tour to celebrate 15 years of existence, combines creative percussion and unconventional choreography to forge a spectacle not to be missed.

• Rosh Hashana is less than two weeks away, and Beit Avi Chai is getting into the spirit, with their annual slate of seasonal repentance chant-themed programming. First on the agenda is an exhibition of 17 artists exploring the themes of piyyut, emotion and thought.

• Giselle is considered a masterpiece in the repertoire of 19th century ballets and a yard stick for the technical and dramatic abilities of the dancers in the leading roles. On Saturday night, it is performed for one night only by the Israel Ballet at the Jerusalem Theatre. Giselle tells the story of the title character, a country girl who falls in love with an engaged count

• Head down to the Machane Yehuda market on Sunday for the opening of the Tabula Rasa urban art project, transforming the shuk into a subversive, breathing, gritty art museum. Painters, sculptors, photographers and graphic artists participate.
  

  Every Sunday through early October, all are invited to the Tishkofet-Maagan Support Center for a series of art encounters entitled Drawing Tibetan Mandalas - Connecting with the Inner Self. Tishkofet helps people deal with illness and the end of life, and at this specific session, participants create structures of serenity to overcome trauma.

  Hatza'atzua's weekly Tipsy Sundays party kicks returns this week at 21:30. Enjoy all the beer you can drink for just 40 NIS, which buys you just two glasses of beer at other bars. The party doesn't stop there, either - deals on mini-shots, cava and cocktails continue into the wee hours.

• 'Tis the season for slichot tours around the city, as denizens and tourists ramp up to the forgiveness-seeing High Holy Days. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the month, the Tower of David is running late-night jaunts through the Old City's chant-filled alleyways. A guided tour in Hebrew starts after The Night Spectacular the sound and light show.

• The piyyut, or liturgical poem, forms the basis of the Jewish prayer service over those High Holy Days. But you don't have to be in synagogue to enjoy their magical poetry. Beit Avi Chai's Piyyut Festival lasts from Monday to Thursday and features concerts of various chant traditions, ranging from Ladino communities to the Hasidic courts. Get there late and be rewarded with free performances in the courtyard from 22:00 to 23:00.

• The older kids are in school, but the young'ns still have to be pampered. Luckily, Malcha Mall is hosting a mommy and baby encounter every Wednesday this month, with special activities like baby massage and baby yoga.
