Grover tours Jerusalem's top attractions
Sesame Street's stable
of over 120 international franchises has continued to blossom locally, where
production is now in full swing on the second season of Shalom Sesame, a version of the show designed to foster love of
Israel, is in full swing.
Season one, which was released in the 1980s, ended up selling over a million units and is probably the most popular educational Jewish video franchise of all time. "For so much of the Jewish community outside Israel, they may never come here, this is a great way to have a virtual experience," executive producer Danny Labin recently told the Associated Press. Labin also appeared recently on Jerusalem's Rusty Mike Radio, with excerpts of his interview there available for download.
Season two, which is set for a December 2010 release, will champion Israel's persity and will be augmented by elements in interactive media. Guest stars already lined up include Christina Applegate, Jake Gyllenhaal, Greg Kinnear and Debra Messing, while Labin hopes to obtain confirmation from Ben Stiller soon as well.
Meanwhile, here in Jerusalem, Sesame Street mainstay Grover has been sighted filming segments all around the city, accompanied by seven-year-old local actress Talia Dzikansky riding on the Egged 99 tour bus past the Waldorf-Astoria Palace Hotel construction site, wandering the Old City alleyways, taking in the views at the Western Wall plaza and shopping for fresh produce at the Machane Yehuda market. Below are some images from Grover's tour of Jerusalem.
