Go Jerusalem is your on-line guide to Jerusalem, the newest old city in the
world. The Go Jerusalem team is dedicated to providing tourists with
personalized support, and the most up-to-date, comprehensive information
available. With everything from travel and hotel reservations to suggestions
about special-interest tours and cultural activities, Go Jerusalem is the first
step of any successful Jerusalem journey.
The Go Jerusalem website was initiated by StartUp Jerusalem (www.startupjerusalem.org),
a non-profit organization founded by entrepreneur, philanthropist and Jerusalem
city councilmember Nir Barkat. The StartUp Jerusalem mission is to revitalize
Jerusalem by developing and effectively communicating its unique advantages as
a center for culture, business and national pride. By improving
Jerusalem´s economic profile and creating new and high-value job
opportunities, StartUp Jerusalem also seeks to create harmony between the
city's diverse demographic sectors.
Go Jerusalem is made possible by a major grant from The Rosalinde and Arthur
Gilbert Foundation, and additional funding from Bank Leumi.
Gideon
Ben-Zvi
Mr. Gideon Ben-Zvi, Chairman of StartUp Jerusalem, is a ninth generation
Jerusalemite. He is CEO and co-founder of
HumanEyes Technologies Ltd., a world inventor of the algorithm and
technology for 3D photography software. He holds an MBA and a B.Sc. in Computer
Science and Mathematics from the Hebrew University. In addition to HumanEyes
Technologies, Ltd., Ben-Zvi has founded a number of successful companies, all
located in Jerusalem.
Nir Barkat
Mr. Nir Barkat, Founder and Vice-Chairman of StartUp Jerusalem, serves as a
City Council member for the Jerusalem Municipality. In 1988, Barkat founded the
BRM group, a high-tech startup that developed security related software. In
1993 Barkat served as the founding Chairman of
Checkpoint Software Technologies Ltd. In 2000, he was a founding
partner of BRM Capital, a $150
million Venture Capital Fund. Barkat is also founding partner of a number of
non-profit concerns including
New-Spirit, an organization dedicated to tapping the potential of
Jerusalem´s large student population for the betterment of the city,
Israel Venture Network (IVN), an organization that supports education
and job creation initiatives, and
Snunit, the largest Hebrew-language educational web site. In 2003
Barkat resigned from all of his business responsibilities and participated in
the Jerusalem mayoral elections. He continues to volunteer in public service.
Ilanit
Melchior
Ms. Ilanit Melchior, administrative director of the Go Jerusalem website and
Startup Jerusalem co director, holds a Masters Degree in International
Relations from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Prior to joining the StartUp
Jerusalem team, Melchior served as strategic consultant to international
companies, and also served as the first ever Israeli elected as chairperson for
the World Union of Jewish Students. Melchior served as a communications officer
in the Israel Defense Forces, where she spent two years assisting Jewish
communities in Europe, particularly in Denmark.
StartUp Jerusalem's Honorary Chairman is Harvard Business School Professor, Michael
E. Porter.
